Heavy Duty Spiders - Type 1

Our quality heavy duty spiders use the finest materials and are built for optimum performance.  Custom-made and sized for your tube, utilizing high-tensile steel TIG welded at the hub, giving the vanes extra stability.  The threaded  vane tips (6-32) are solidly TIG welded to the vanes, making this the strongest spider on the market.  The shorter (1/2") vane tip helps keep the vane end out of the light path.  Style 1 Spiders can be made up to 14" and feature 0.022" vane thickness, 3/8" center hub and one threaded vane end per vane.  Astrosystems spiders and secondary holders are used by most truss telescope manufacturers including New Moon, Parallax, Planewave, Obsession, Teeters, Webster and Osypowski telescopes.

Super Duty Spiders - Type 2 and 3

Our Super Duty spiders offer the same fine materials and construction as the heavy duty spiders.  Style 2 Spiders can be made up to 22" and feature 0.029" vane thickness, 3/8" center hub and one threaded vane end per vane.  The Style 3 can be made up to 26" and feature 0.029" vane thickness, 3/8" center hub and two threaded vane end per vane.  These features allow proper tensioning to hold accurate collimation with even the heaviest secondary mirrors.  Our super duty spiders handle the demanding support requirements of short f/ratio telescopes (f/3-f/4.5).

Super Duty II Spiders - Style 4

Our Super Duty II spiders offer the same fine materials and construction as the heavy duty spiders.  The Style 4 features heavier vane material of 0.048", a 1/2" center hub to to match our Super Duty secondary holders and two 6mm vane fasteners per vane and a 3" hub stiffener to eliminate torque from heavy, large secondary mirrors.  These features allow proper tensioning to hold accurate collimation with even the heaviest secondary mirrors.  Our super duty II spiders handle the demanding support requirements of short f/ratio telescopes (f/3-f/4.5) and large, heavy secondary mirrors/holders.

Super Duty II Spiders - Style 5

Our Super Duty II spiders offer the same fine materials and construction as the heavy duty spiders.  The Style 5 features heavier vane material of  0.048", a 1/2" center hub to to match our Super Duty secondary holders and two 1/4-20 stainless vane fasteners per vane.  These features allow proper tensioning to hold accurate collimation with even the heaviest secondary mirrors.  Our super duty II spiders handle the demanding support requirements of short f/ratio telescopes (f/3-f/4.5) and large, heavy secondary mirrors/holders.  The adjustment plate is attached to the spider and minimizes torque on the spider from large heavy secondary mirrors.

Style 4

Style 5

Super Duty II  Wider center body, double vane ends -  larger 1/4-20 size, recommended for 5 - 6.5" secondary mirrors and shorter f/ratio (f/4 or less).

Maximum tube inside diameter is 40", double vane end spaced 2.5" apart, 4.0" wide at center.  Has an integrated adjustment plate for the secondary holder that stiffens the spider, resisting torque from heavy secondary mirrors.
